I'm for the sexier look of the female fighters in fighting games, Doa, Tekken and VF go for it all the time and I don't remember complainings about that.

Straight up. I don't play Mortal Kombat for its modesty. I love my sexy girls. I'll play Virtua Figther when I want something a little more grounded.

Seriously, this whole vibe about Mortal Kombat being "juvenile" is sickening. People act like the sexuality is the only thing excessive about the game.

Someone thinks that MK should go for a "realistic" route: less blood, less gore/splatter, no sexy attires for the girls and so on.
Make these changes to the MK franchise and you will kill it. Straight and easy

To be frank, that's a load of bollocks.

Never in my years as an MK Fan have I ever heard another fan of the franchise make the claim that the blood and violence should be toned down. That's essentially what makes Mortal Kombat distinctive from other Fighters, it always was the game with the most gore and violence, and thats why fans loved it.

All people are saying here is that Kitana should have a costume like this in the game. And there are many perfectly legitimate reasons as to why she should.

(1) She's a princess who's been trained over thousands of years to be a lethal and efficient killer, and none of her costumes to date (specifically in MK9) have really been in any way practical for that profession. Even Sub-Zero and Smoke, who are both very elaborately and flamboyantly dressed for their secretive occupations are a lot more practically dressed than Kitana is, despite her having thousands of years more combat experience than both of them.

The only reason why that happens is because they're male and she's female, so instantaneously she's got to be a "sexy femme fatale" solely because she's got boobs. There's ways she can look beautiful and feminine whilst still being dressed appropriately for not just her character but for the job. This costume is a perfect example of that and if anything it says more about who she is and her fighting capacities than a bra and thong does, even if some fans would consider it bland (which nobody has so far).

(2) As stated above, she's a Princess. In comparisson to Jade, Skarlet, Li Mei or Sonya, she's royalty and a respectable figure in the Mortal Kombat universe. This should be reflected in her costume, as it not only would reflect her standing it would also be a stark contrast to her evil twin Mileena's sense of style.

(3) Mortal Kombat's been known to cater to fan demand and listen to fan input over the years, and a costume like this has been something fans have wanted and voiced desires for loudly on the internet. Easy solution? Make one of her many alternate costumes like this, and cater to both fans. Something girly and revealing and "sexy" for one demographic, and something more believable and modest like this costume for the other.

I understand MK's always been about the unbelievable, but I don't think making costumes for characters that fit the character will completely shatter Mortal Kombat. If you want cleavage and exposed bodies you've got Mileena, Jade, Skarlet, Sindel and Sheeva to perve on.

I wish this oversexed argument would just die already. It's the most stale argument around here.

Mortal Kombat is about excess. Sex, blood, gore and story. It's all there.

Honestly, that outfit would not fit in a MK game. It would look absolutely horrid and boring compared to everyone else. Yes, Mortal Kombat has sexed up girls. It will always have sexed up girls, AND it's better for it.

Am I being sexist? No. Because Virtua Fighter has a modest dress-code AND it's ALSO better for it!

Let games be what they are meant to be. Covering Kitana's cleavage will do absolutely nothing to better the game. Will it make the game more "believable" to you? Well that's a fucking bad thing, cause that's not what it's supposed to be.

Mortal Kombat is, aesthetically and story-wise, the most outrageous fighter on the market, by a fucking mile. Just stop trying to over-analyze it and just enjoy it for what it is - fantasy, tits and gore. It's the equivalent of a Friday the 13th movie. You don't watch that shit for its poetic depth in writing. FUCK!

Disclamer: I do like the outfit. It's pretty damn cool. It will look great in Legacy, which is essentially the "Dark Knight" rendition of Mortal Kombat. But that shit has no business in a MK game.

"... anyone who really believes that the only reason players play MK is for the violence probably has never really played MK."- John Tobias (Sep. 17, 2012)

If there was one overarching glorious thing to come from the reemergence of John Tobias (during the anniversary), I think it might have been the simple act of seeing some of the old wisdom back in circulation.

Obviously there are fans who've played the game for some sort of weird, desperate tittilation, but no. Sex and violence were never centrally representative of MK. They were just natural (then-topical) byproducts of what it is (or was) about: martial arts, fantastical plot, colourful and interesting characters.

The violence (and sex) comes from the Hong Kong, Hollywood and comic book references the series owes its origins to. A kung fu heart rip, rather than the masturbatory meatgrinding that the heavy breathing, creepy guy loitering around the horror section might be thinking about (now the domain of younger fans and their fixated imaginations, apparently).

The desire to see a character like Kitana in an outfit like this doesn't, or at least shouldn't, come from a place of "reality." This is the same core principles that were there in the beginning, fulfilling the promise of the first games, which always alluded to much more than they could deliver.

Tancharoen's sweeping disregard for the source material he's adapting isn't all that brilliant, or rooted in these principles -- but he gets this one right because it connects with the core of a character who hasn't had that treatment. For whatever reason, they held back when it came to giving Kitana more than the bikini treatment. Most characters finally got a definitive, individual look to call their own during the MKDA-MKA era.

Kitana didn't quite reach definitive and that's why this is an easy target.
It's not about "realism" or bikinis it's about character!

What do you like? Hit the Toasty thumbs up on articles and forum posts for a quick response!

BlazBlue.
No one is saying take the sexy out of MK. This outfit skintight on Kitana would still be sexy ala Taki or Christie. I think this with some of the embellishments from MK9 Kitana would be fantastic.

People frequently point out MKDA Kitana as one of their favorite looks and this reminds me of that with more pants. People have certain ideas about characters and clearly one that almost everyone holds is that Kitana should dress more modestly than she did in the most recent game.

Options would be nice as far as looks go. There's no reason Kitana can't have something like this AND what she had in MK9.

Variety is the spice of life.

BlazBlue is like listening to a boring lecture compared to MK.

Didn't read anything else. Nothing can be said that already hasn't been said. Don't need cleavage to be sexy, blah blah blah. MK isn't classy sexy, it's straight smutty glory.

Mortal Kombat has it's own distinct style. Shit exactly the same as that costume has been done over and over and OVER. It's covered. Want it? There's a million other places to look. Put down your tea and crumpets, stop criticizing MKs art direction for being too "immatuare" and just enjoy MK for what it is - fuckin' unique.

Even if every character in this entire game had outfits in this more realistic and modest style, this forum would STILL be flooded with bitching. EVERY fighting game has these fans that read WAY too far it's graphic design because either they don't know enough about other aspects of a game or they're just prone to bitching.

KoF XII: Athena & Yuri look like dolls Waaaaaah!
SF:IV: Everyone is too muscly and has a low polygon count WAAAH!
BlazBlue: Everyone looks like generic anime characters and Guilty Gear clones! WAAAH!
DOA: Boobs are too big, bounce weird and all girls look the same! WAAAAH!
Soul Calibur: Ivy, Taki and Sophitia's boobs get bigger while their clothes shrink every installment! WAAAAAH!
MK: Girls wear skimpy outfits! WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Seriously! Get the sand out of your vaginas! LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE ART! Instead of saying, "OMFG! No breast exposure in this outfit! It's instantly better than everything in MK ever!"

And if it's not painfully evident. I am under a fair amount of inebriation. Which happens to be the best way to enjoy Mortal Kombat, I might add.

Don't most games have their own unique style and art direction? Should someone be forced to enjoy something they don't like because it's just there.

More importantly what are you drinking?

captain morgans

and no. no one's forcing you to enjoy mortal kombat. you shouldn't play it if you don't. you should also poop if you have a tummy ache

and my point is that mortal kombat has a far more distinctive aesthetic than many other fighters when compared to each other.

there are far more ninja chicks in gaming out there that wear similar clothing to what is being shown here than there are that look like kitana.... "hurrdurr because it's more realistic and practical" FUCK YOU LEARN 2 READ

I'm done now. getting really really crazy.

But seriously. Everyone will bitch regardless of how the game is presented. I'm certain that if this costume was put in the game instead of the current one, there would be just as much crying as there is now.

I'm with the majority saying that there's no reason why this costume shouldn't be in the game. If you want a sexy Kitana pick her primary costume and enjoy.

However, what the fuck is that DISGUSTING GARBAGE of her alternate costume doing in the game?! No one EVER picks that ugly costume, it's ridiculous. It's a disgrace for the character.

Why couldn't we have a costume like this instead? Like others have said, it's what majority of Kitana and MK fans have desired for her for a long time now, so why not make us happy too? And she'd still look sexy, Taki style.

And whoever designed Sheeva's MK2011 costumes didn't deserve a paycheck. Two straps of red clothes and that's it. I bet their brain still hurts from all the creative effort they put into it.

Maybe your PC had some connection Issues when MK vs DC was in the air, or you were not so often in the MK forums.
I still remember people complaining about the blood, because it was "too much" or Queve, a user I admire and respect, also claimed that "the T rating forced them (ed Boon &CO) to be more creative with Fatalities".

And the whole "sexy attires are out of place in MK" is still a fresh debate over the forums.

I might be wrong, but thankfuly I'm not a delusional visionary nor a liar.

The last female outfit I liked was Frost's from MKDA. That I thought was excellent.

wow. was mad wasted.

Before I get there tonight (already had one cocktail) and loose my ability to post in a passive manner. Let me put it this way. If people were to just say "that would be a neat alternate costume for Kitana", that would be fine. But no, people gotta say stupid shit like, "This is better than anything MK has done." or "NRS take notes."

Fuck that. Kitana looks great in MK9. MK9 is the best looking MK9 game by a fucking light-year. Fuckers need to learn to appreciate.

Costume would still look like shit in MK9, though. It'd look so sharply contrasting that it'd stick out like an 8th grade kid with a boner called up to the chalkboard in class.

Guess I'm already kinda drunk again.

I think the problem is that people don't think it fits Kitana's characterization.

This costume is really good, but considering the nature the game series' attire, I'm not sure if it would fit well in the games, at least right now.

Kitana's current costume seems to present the illusion that she is nothing more than a pretty little girl, which is perfect for someone who is both a princess and an assassin.

I mean, it is though. Only MKDA contends with it from a design point of view.

She's more of a princess who just so happens to be a decent fighter in the current continuity.
