It's a good concept, but you need to put more in to it. Like make the cloth look like cloth. And, maybe show the spear flying towards the viewer.

Needs a lot of work. I take it first time in a 3d designer? BUT, at least I can see that you are learning, and quite well. Something I may suggest, bump-mapping. Very beautiful effect. And get some of you vertices aligned better. Worry about the blood after you got scorpion down.

I think it is because if your clothing is "flat" the rest of the picture will look less real. But all in all, I think he means texture in general. Realistic cloth is just one of those things you don't notice until it not there.

1) Spear should be going to viewer for higher rating
2) More details in background, but not too many

I quite like this. It reminds me of "Another World" on the amiga. I'm guessing you used photo reference because his face and hand seem just right. It's a bit blurry- maybe you should use less compression.
