The only way I'd Feel Right Voting on who wins this is if it was an Exibitition or Sparring Match, IKnow they Are Both Made Up Character's but They're Character Roles Portray Them Both As such Great People not to Mentiom Kind Hearted Gentlemen.

The Voting Poll is At Kenshi 50% and Night Wolf 50% Im going To do more Constructive Things with my Time Then Give A Vote on This One.

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - CHAMPIONSHIP:
Liu Kang versus Shao Kahn
#20 Supreme Ranking #10
18 wins 8 losses Record 19 wins 8 losses
Champion (2020) Best Result Semis (2020)

We came to audit the kombatants who participated in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and a new Mortal Kombat feature film, but even this was changed by on-going events. MK11 has come to an official end, and the past remains ever present as Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms emerges to retell a klassic struggle. Was it this that steered us inevitably towards our final question: Who reigns supreme?

Liu Kang has returned to his place as chosen champion of Mortal Kombat. He ascended to the status of Fire God during Mortal Kombat 11, and his hero's journey has once again been retold in the Mortal Kombat movie and the upcoming animated feature Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms. His path to the 2021 final saw the defeat of: Kabal (R1), Kung Lao (R2), Bo' Rai Cho (R3), Shinnok (QF), and Mileena (SF).

Shao Kahn has returned to his place as Emperor of Outworld. The deceased ruler was plucked from history in Mortal Kombat 11, and undid his brutal defeat in MK11 Aftermath to restore his reign as conqueror. Although absent from the Mortal Kombat movie, a statue paid homage to his past exploits. His klassic challenge to Earthrealm is to be retold in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms. His path to the 2020 final claimed: Stryker (R1), Jade (R2), Cetrion (R3), Kintaro (QF), and Nightwolf (SF).

Uncertainty becomes the constant as Mortal Kombat continues to revisit its history in multiple mediums, rewriting new iterations across an infinitely expanding tangle of timelines and realities. A retelling of past legends is our immediate fate, but history tells us it will not be the end. Soon we will anticipate our future, but here and now the 2021 Supreme Mortal Kombat Champion tournament aims to answer one ultimate everlasting question: Here and now - who reigns supreme? Choose their destiny! FIGHT!

Liu Kang's Soul Purpose is to beat Shao Kahn... Raiden's Soul Purpose is to Protect Earth Realm (Thus Far) and Shao Kahn's Soul Purpose is to Defeat Raiden and Merge the Realm's. IMHO Shao Kahn Could Beat Liu Kang if He wasnt Raidens Secret Weapon an Knew Enough about Him to Study In a Kombat Style That Could Kounter Liu Kang's Style. Every Style Has Techniques That Can Defend against any of the Most "Powerfull Styles" and open up enuff window's to Beat that Particular Style That is (IF IT WERE ADDED INTO THE GAME) it's Just a Matter of Perfecting That Character's/Hero's Full Technique/Moveset/Kit. Then again Games Latelly Dont Play this way they Let repetitive Moves in a smal infinite Rotation be more Powerfull then Every Full Kit Technique which has gone so far backwards on the Learning Curve I Honestly Have Started MMA Training Instead.

So, no championship summary? No celebration for the fire god yet.

On a side note, it surprises me how the interest to these polls has so drastically dropped in a few years.

2018: 19 pages,

2019: 13 pages,

2020: 8 pages,

2021: 7 pages of discussions.

Maybe MKO is turning into the Netherrealm as a whole.

The dust has well and truly settled on the 10th annual Supreme Champion tournament and as we know: Liu Kang was the winner.

A big shoutout to everyone who let me know you wanted to see a recap, and have showed continued interest in the entire concept. Hearing from the kommunity is what it's all about!

Of course, it's also interesting to look at our favourite characters through the context of an over-arching living document, so here's some detail to help you do that:

Liu Kang has become only the second character to be crowned a repeat champion.

He joins series mascot Sub-Zero in this unique distinction, reflecting a return to esteem for the character in both Mortal Kombat 11, and this year's live-action movie. Long time fans will hopefully enjoy Liu Kang's renewed status as the big hero of the franchise, but also observe that -- despite his franchise history and two-time champ status -- it reflects a significant shift in attitudes and voting since the record began with the 2011 reboot, and even before that!

His record is a particularly interesting study of how much has actually changed over the last ten years! His championship runs required reversing specific results against opponents who'd previously defeated him. Much more than mere luck of the draw! Take a closer look at his complete record:

2012 R1: Liu Kang (71.7%) defeated Hotaru
2012 R2: Liu Kang (53.3%) defeated Shinnok
2012 R3: Smoke defeated Liu Kang (38.4%)
2013 R1: Liu Kang (88.0%) defeated Kobra
2013 R2: Fujin defeated Liu Kang (49.1%)
2014 R1: Raiden defeated Liu Kang (32.3%)
2015 R1: Raiden defeated Liu Kang (28.4%)
2016 R1: Kung Lao defeated Liu Kang (38.5%)
2017 R1: Liu Kang (83.3%) defeated Shujinko
2017 R2: Noob Saibot defeated Liu Kang (41.9%)
2018 R1: Liu Kang (66.6%) defeated Jacqui Briggs
2018 R2: Liu Kang (60.4%) defeated Kabal
2018 R3: Kung Lao defeated Liu Kang (45.2%)
2019 R1: Liu Kang (72.0%) defeated Blaze
2019 R2: Reptile defeated Liu Kang (40.7%)
2020 R1: Liu Kang (60.0%) defeated Fire God
2020 R2: Liu Kang (66.7%) defeated Noob Saibot
2020 R3: Liu Kang (65.2%) defeated Johnny Cage
2020 QF: Liu Kang (76.2%) defeated Kronika
2020 SF: Liu Kang (51.9%) defeated Shang Tsung
2020 Championship: Liu Kang (61.1%) defeated Raiden
2021 R1: Liu Kang (78.3%) defeated Kabal
2021 R2: Liu Kang (65.2%) defeated Kung Lao
2021 R3: Liu Kang (66.7%) defeated Bo' Rai Cho
2021 QF: Liu Kang (69.6%) defeated Shinnok
2021 SF: Liu Kang (64.3%) defeated Mileena
2021 Championship: Liu Kang (52.0%) defeated Shao Kahn

It's sometimes tempting to see short-term repetition or expectation -- but that's missing the forest for the trees.

In ten years we've seen 23 different characters reach the finals stage of the tournament, with 60.8% of those progressing to the Semi Finals, and 39.1% challenging for the Championship. The three most frequent finalists have been Sub-Zero, Raiden, and Kitana. Making their first finals appearance in 2021 were neglected favourites Nightwolf and Kintaro.

Fans know the special significance of 10 tournaments - so how close have we come to annihilation per the rules of Mortal Kombat? Well, so far we're pretty safe! Outworld has only won twice, as has Netherrealm, and both were years apart. In fact, Liu Kang's back-to-back wins are the first time any realm has been represented with a streak: Earthrealm has now won three in a row, counting Raiden's victory in 2019.

MK fans may die hard for their favourite characters, but the franchise has also fostered a unique passion for constant upheaval. That produced some suprise successes in 2021, with particular emphasis on 3D era nostalgia and speculation for an uncertain future.

Onaga was the most improved character this year, doing one better than Edenian Elder God Argus who advanced +22 ranks! Bo' Rai Cho and Shujinko both gained +10 in the Deception-era turnaround. MK11's Cetrion also benefitted from a third year of results improving +20! Among the most improved were also: MK11 Ultimate's Mileena, Shinnok, Ferra/Torr, Kintaro, and Nightwolf,

Only 5 of the Top 16 characters remain where they were in 2020 -- with a massive 3 characters falling out of the guaranteed top spots! A total of 18 characters (including the 5) were unchanged by this year's result, meaning over 80% of the complete 91 character rankings has been shuffled!

Fans may love upheaval, but clearly not all change is good. MK vs DC Universe hybrid boss Dark Kahn returned and had the biggest fall of the year: plunging all the way to the absolute bottom of the rankings! Controversial movie invention Cole Young debuted only a few ranks ahead of that: #88 after a crushing defeat at the hands of his on-screen victim Goro! Others hit hard by their big screen appearance were: Kabal, Kano, and Reiko, with MK11's Geras and Kronika also slipping as hype for their 2019 debut dissipates.

To this point the Supreme Champion tournament has been strictly for characters taken from the game franchise and its expansive canon. Cole Young was a significant and topical exception to this rule, and it remains to be determined if he will be included in any future votes. It may require an appearance in the video games to begin a redemption for the highly contentious cinematic invention.

Other tweaks to the format were considered for the 10th annual tournament. Wildcard rounds incorporating all 90 characters previously featured were considered, as well as three-way battles for the First Round. Ultimately, a standard and efficient 64 character bracket was chosen to maintain balance to the rankings system, a premium on topical appearances, and the potential for variations voters crave.

In the event we return in 2022 to crown a new Supreme Champion we'll be taking into consideration Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms -- which was promoted and released after the vote -- as well as other future productions, including NetherRealm Studios' much rumored next project.

The Supreme Mortal Kombat Champion tournament has been an exercise in auditing the franchise for ten years. If you'd like to see this unique kommunity project continue be sure to shout out in the comments below! You can also suggest some of the characters, match-ups, or gimmicks you might like to see in a future vote. Don't forget you can also run your own forum games, votes, and revisit an archive of past competitions in the Fan Koliseum.

Myself and MKOnline extend a hearty thank you to everyone who has contributed over the last ten years! It's been a blast! FRIENDSHIP!
